Sutherland 5401 Intellicomp / SC/PFC-5401 Portable Field Computer

Each 5401 runs on a special variation of Sutherland Electrics' BRIGHT SKY secure operating system, developed for military and government agency usage. Pictured is a task manager used to monitor as well as inspect installed and running programs.

Close up of false instructions printed on the lid. Following these exact directions will actually zeroize the device and on certain models detonate a small explosive charge located behind the datakey insertion slot.

Zeroization is fairly simple. The user only has to press the ARM and ZEROIZE buttons on the right hand side simultaneously. Any cryptographic algorithms, keys, and hard drive data will be deleted instantly, even when the intellicomp is switched off.

The 5401 on the left is shown in its upright position, typically carried with a shoulder strap by personnel when in active usage in the field.
